Learn Latin grooves from México to the tip Southern tip of the Americas in this 3-class course. Saturdays August 12, 19 and 26 from 10am-12pm at the Mexican-Merican Cultural Center downtown. $60 for the 3-week course. Learn Tango, Bolero, Bossa-nova, Cuban rhythms, Andean rhythms, Caribbean rhythms, and more! Taught in English and Spanish, depending on the need acoording to attendance. No knowledge of music theory or music notation reading required. Of course, knowing these things will help, but are definitely not essential. All you need is a guitar with strings and a desire to learn. Taught by Carlos Ufret of Los Bohemios Perdidos. Imparted in English and Spanish, depending on the need according to attendance. First we'll cover basic strumming (rasgueo/rasgueado), muting, fingerpicking, hitting techniques (golpes) and simpler, non-syncopated rhythms, all the way to the more complex ones. We will use common chord progressions to practice the patterns, and cover more complex ways of connecting those chords.
You will receive materials including:
-an audio CD with ALL musical examples discussed in class
-course packet with text description all examples of rhythms discussed in class in English and Spanish, notated in rhythm notation, tablature, chord charts, etc.
-detailed explanation of techniques and notations
-a VERY brief history of Latin grooves
-chord charts for classic songs in each genre
