GlobalAustin is non-profit, 501(c)(3) founded as the International Hospitality Council of Austin in 1960 to match international students at The University of Texas with Austin families for fun and fellowship. Today, GlobalAustin, which is affiliated with the National Council of International Visitors (NCIV) that is sponsored by the U.S. State Department, focuses efforts on three key international sectors: students, government representatives and business leaders. GlobalAustin establishes international visitor programs that provide information exchanges with professional resources from the Central Texas area. GlobalAustin delivers educational and cultural programs to approximately 500 visiting international leaders annually, and also co-hosts the “Austin International Awards: An Evening with the Consular Corps” with the Austin Chamber of Commerce. The GlobalAustin Coffee Mornings program meets most Wednesdays and provides an introduction to life in Austin as well as a networking forum for international residents in the city; meetings are free and include tours of local landmarks and meetings with city officials.
